This week I got so sick with the flu. Influenza B to be specific. I work closely with children in healthcare, so with this horrible flu season, it was really only a matter of time before I became collateral.
The body aches and fever were the worst part. It didn’t matter how much Motrin I took, I still just ached. So I took Sunday through Wednesday off from all workouts and just rested.
On Friday I finally tried a 30 bike ride on the trainer inside. While it felt good to finally be moving, it was definitely a hard workout to get through. My lungs burned a little from the congestion, my knees ached and I still felt weak. But I made it through the 30mins!
Then on Saturday I finally ran! After being sick for so many days I finally laced up my run kicks and ran! Before getting sick the plan was for this to be an 8 miler. The longest run so far in this training cycle. That plan was thrown out the window after getting sick. So instead I ran an easy 4 miles.
Going into the run on Saturday I wasn’t sure how it was going to go. I wasn’t even sure if I felt up to running 4 miles yet. I figured I would at least try and if I had to walk I would walk and if I had to end the run early I would. I ended up walking a couple times, but I still maintained an average pace of 11:00min/mi.
Heading into the next week I am looking forward to getting back to where I was. My goals in the next few weeks are to up my mileage and also start incorporating some speed work! I’ll have to see what coach thinks.
