This past weekend I worked my last on call shift at this job ever. And I could not be happier that it is over. Working through the weekend and having to be on call overnight is stressful and draining. I go into the workweek with massive amounts of burnout and just feeling exhausted. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a little hard work, but there is something about the stress of on call that will just wear you down. Just another reason why this current job is not the right fit for me.
Enough talking about work. This is suppose to be an uplifting, positive and inspirational blog! So lets talk about fitness and running.
I haven’t really run as much this week as I normally do. It has been so hot and sometimes when your body if feeling worn down it is okay to take a break. So here is the break down of the week:
Monday 7/22: Cross training
Tuesday 7/23: 4 miles easy pace. After work miles are the hardest.
Wednesday 7/24: Speed work. Workout below
- 2 mile warm up
- 4 x 1 min at 8:38/mi pace with 2 min recovery job
- 2 mile cool down
Thursday 7/25: Cross training
Friday 7/26: Rest day.
Saturday 7/27: Typically this is my long run day, however because of call I wasn’t able to start my run until around 2 in the afternoon. And by that time it was SO HOT!! So I did the best I could. My legs felt strong, but by mile 5 I was feeling overheated and sick. So I just called it quits. I hate bailing on a run, but again I cannot stress enough how important it is to take care of your body! It also helps to keep you from developing burn out related to your running.
Sunday 7/28: I didn’t make it home from work in take to get a run in. So instead I took and impromptu rest day. By the time I got home from work it was much to hot to run and there were friends to meet up with! We went to a local brewery for some amazing snacks and beer. Honestly, craft brews have really stepped up their game. So yummy!
While I didn’t run too much this past week; I will run more next week…
Happy running everyone!!
